GeologicalScienceBlog - subjects include Geology, Climatology, Environmental Science, NASCAR, Beer, Property Rights, Random Thoughts, & Politics from a Christian Conservative/Libertarian/pragmatist viewpoint. As a Dad & Grandad, I am concerned about the overgrowth of government at the expense of freedom. The Evidence is Mounting...
Not to excuse errors/sins from BP, but once the well had blown out, it became a "federal case". As they had been warned by BP, as of February 13th, they had time to assemble A, B, and C plans, starting off with the 1994 plan as a template.
The same people that slammed President Bush for his "arrogant, go-it-alone" attitude on Iraq, should be slamming Barack Obama for his refusal to accept the help offered by 32 foreign governments or organizations, as detailed on this Department of State chart (as of 6/29).
More specifically, this National Post article details why we refused to accept early help from the Netherlands. Partially to preserve union jobs and partially because environmentalists demand perfection of any clean-up efforts. [The rant about union jobs refers to the probably rationale behind the original Jones Act legislation.]
From the article (excerpts are not in order):
..."The Americans, overwhelmed by the catastrophic consequences of the BP spill, finally relented and took the Dutch up on their offer -- but only partly. Because the U.S. didn't want Dutch ships working the Gulf, the U.S. airlifted the Dutch equipment to the Gulf and then retrofitted it to U.S. vessels. And rather than have experienced Dutch crews immediately operate the oil-skimming equipment, to appease labour unions the U.S. postponed the clean-up operation to allow U.S. crews to be trained."...
As for the demanding perfection in cleanup efforts...
From the article:
..."Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn't good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million -- if water isn't at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico."...
"Letting the perfect be the enemy of the good." It seems to me that even if the water is only 90% pure, it is better than what they took out of the ocean.
Owing to Rahm Emanuel's rare moment of honesty, some of us can't help but wonder if they are deliberately letting this get worse in order to "not waste this crisis".
At best the government getting in the way of clean-up efforts of a sign of its lack of adult leadership and if they are deliberately letting it get worse, then it is criminal.
[As I am tired, I will end this here, lest it become a 500-word rant.] Make sure to read and reread the National Post (actually Financial Post) article, if you are unfamiliar with some of the technology, so it will soak in.

1963 Communist Goals
How many of these goals do you think have been realized? The italicized comments are mine.
1) US acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war
2) US willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war
3) Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the US would be a demonstration of "moral strength"
4) Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
5) Extension of long term loans to Russia and Soviet Satellites
6) Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination
7) Grant recognition of Red China, and admission of Red China to the UN.
8) Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the Germany question by free elections under supervision of the UN. Following President Reagan's inspiration, the people pushed back on this one.
9) Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the US has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress
10) Allow all Soviet Satellites individual representation in the UN
11) Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the UN as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo). Lots of folks have been talking about Global Government, rather openly. Here are just a few.
12) Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party
13) Do away with loyalty oaths
14) Continue giving Russia access to the US Patent Office. Ditto with China.
15) Capture one or both of the political parties in the US
16) Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions, by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17) Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for Socialism, and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers associations. Put the party line in text books. This is why Conservative teachers are rather rare and many of those that are present are afraid to be too public about it.
18) Gain control of all student newspapers
19) Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20) Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
21) Gain control of key positions in radio, TV & motion pictures.
22) Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings", substitute shapeless, awkward, and meaningless forms.
23) Control art critics and directors of art museums. " Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art".
24) Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25) Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography, and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV. Need I comment on this one?
26) Present Homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as "normal, natural, and healthy".
27) Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch". This is the "social justice" movement.
28) Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state". Carrying on the life's work of Madalyn Murray the ACLU is constantly trying to root out any public expressions of faith, or at least those uttered by Christians and Jews. They are OK with Muslims.
29) Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. This is behind the notion of a "living, breathing Constitution".
30) Discredit the American founding fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man". This is behind the intense focus on our Founding Fathers as slaveholders, in order to discredit their words and deeds. Yes, slavery was and is evil, but these were men of their time and they left us a system by which we could get rid of slavery.
31) Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of "the big picture:" Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32) Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture - - education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33) Eliminate all laws or procedures, which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34) Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35) Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI
36) Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37) Infiltrate and gain control of big business
38) Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.
39) Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40) Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41) Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42) Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special interest groups should rise up and make a "united force" to solve economic, political, or social problems.
43) Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government. This opens the door to anarchy, which causes the population to welcome a "strongman" to re-establish control.
44) Internationalize the Panama Canal. Thanks Jimmy Carter.
45) Repeal the Connally Reservation so the US can not prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike. This would include the International Criminal Court.
Much of the social degradation of the mainstream American culture has not happened by accident, it is with a purpose. Ditto with the deletion of important bits of American history, especially in the trashing of our Founding Fathers.
BTW, while on the subject, Barney Frank thinks there is no such thing as "too much government".

Thursday Videos II
If a liberal raises an objection to the subject of this broadcast, just politely, but firmly, ask them "Is he factually and historically incorrect"? That same lib probably doesn't know that there were Blacks, Jews, and Cherokees in the Confederate Army. History is a lot more complex than we know. Things get buried because they conflict with political agendas, or at best, they make some folks uncomfortable.

Thursday Videos
Adolf Hitler warned the world of what he wanted to do with "Mein Kampf". The communists have been quite open about what they wanted to do. Some of us are old enough to remember Nikita Kruschev pounding on a table at the UN, with his shoe, saying "We will bury you".
During the years that the KGB files were open, it was revealed that the Kremlin played a role in manipulating the Vietnam-ear antiwar movement. A depressing number of antiwar radicals are now within the government.

So, Why Did the Egyptian Foreign Minister Say...
Inquiring minds want to know!
This apparently happened a few months ago.
From the above-linked article:
..."Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said he had a one-on-one meeting with Obama, in which President Obama told him that he was still a Muslim, the son of a Muslim father, the stepson of Muslim stepfather, that his half brothers in Kenya are Muslims, and that he was sympathetic towards the Muslim agenda. [Emphasis added.]
Finally, during the week of 14-18th of January 2010, just on the eve of my winter tour to the US, Rachel picked up a Nile TV broadcast in which Egyptian Foreign Minister Abul Gheit said on the "Round Table Show" that he had had a one on one meeting with Obama who swore to him that he was a Moslem, the son of a Moslem father and step-son of Moslem step-father, that his half-brothers in Kenya were Moslems, and that he was loyal to the Moslem agenda. He asked that the Moslem world show patience. Obama promised that once he overcame some domestic American problems (Healthcare), that he would show the Moslem world what he would do with Israel."...
Someone has some explaining to do, not that he will. Until it is too late. For us.
This web post has a few other things to think about. And this one, which was referenced in the link above. And do you remember this little "Freudian slip"?
And what does this mean? "Obama promised that once he overcame some domestic American problems (Healthcare), that he would show the Moslem world what he would do with Israel."
Do what with Israel?
So why did the Egyptian Foreign Minister say this? Was is a snafu in translation? Or was the Foreign Minister so excited, he couldn't contain his glee?
If Barack Obama was lying to him, simply trying to curry favor, that is not a good idea, either. From the third linked-article:
"There is no debate about the fact that his biological father and step-father were Sunni Moslems and that he was raised until age 11 in Islamic schools and mosques in Islamic Indonesia. This makes Obama a Moslem according to the Moslem faith. We shall not talk of his white mother who belonged to the anti-Christian left."
A significant number of people in the "Muslim world" believe Barack Obama is a Muslim. If he were to convince them that his conversion to Christianity was genuine, that would make him an apostate, which might make him a target for terrorists.
Put the pieces together, while we can. This is what we get when enough Americans are fooled into voting for a "Manchurian President". Pamela Geller provides this list of things to consider.
If those of us - who are concerned about the background and motives of this president - are wrong, nothing happens! If we are right, though...
