Here is Someone That Takes Herself Entirely Too Seriously

From WND comes this article about a "new version of the Bible". The article opens with:

"A new, lavishly illustrated book – described by its marketer as a "postmodern" edition of the Bible – takes Darwin's theory of evolution as gospel and presents Jesus as being born, "not to a virgin, but to a gorilla."

According to Ruth Rimm, Bronx school teacher and book artist, her version of the Scriptures – titled "Lost Spiritual World" – "explores the emergence of a new global spirituality that mixes the best of each wisdom tradition with the latest findings in psychology, quantum physics, neuroscience, and linguistics."

It is a "Bible for skeptics, seekers, and people of different faiths.""

[Now all ya'll don't roll your eyes too much, they might get stuck like that!]

The article continues:

The first volume in the series – which will eventually present the Torah, Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist sutras, and Sufi mysticism – covers the Gospel of Mark.

Rimm, however, includes parables not found in Mark, such as the Parable of the Dolphin, the Parable of the Snow Leopard and the Parable of the Gorilla, which are illustrated in a series of irreverent videos to be made available on YouTube as part of the book's marketing campaign. [Emphasis added.]

Now what is missing from the "project list"? What can it be?

Other than Islam-related Sufism, is she going to present us with a Post-Modern interpretation of the Qu'ran? And if not, then why? Inquiring minds want to know!

If she thinks that Jesus was born of a gorilla, then who was Muhammed's mom? [For a variety of reasons, I will not even go there - and I am not being PC about it!]

The article continues:

"...Rimm's unconventional Bible is reflected in its design as well as its content.

"The rectangular format of most books just doesn't capture the majesty of the text," said Rimm.

"'The Lost Spiritual World' is unlike any book you've ever seen," she said on her
website. "For one thing, it's not shaped like a rectangle. In Greek, the word orthodox means 'straight thinking.' But according to the fundamentalist thought police, I don't think straight. I'm a 'heretic.'

[Using that line of "thinking", the fact that the tires on our cars have always been round is the result of the "fundamentalist thought police". If the cultural elites egg her on, a future project might be to design car tires and wheels that are hexagons or if you want to be odd about it, perhaps a heptagon.]

"That's why I created the wavy shape. It immerses you into the quantum field, showing you how to explore the interconnection of seemingly opposite perspectives. This is the mystical, the 'mysterium tremendum,' the divine spark that gave birth to our religions."" [Idle time is the Devil's workshop.]

I know we are not supposed to "judge a book by its cover" (Sorry, I couldn't resist), but Ruth Rimm looks like you would expect her to. She is sitting cross-legged and barefoot on a pillow in front of a mountain & lake scene (which I think looks like a backdrop and not an outdoor photo). A pertinent question might be - did she hide the bong behind her before the photo shoot?

Who do you suppose she voted for in the last several elections? How do you think she would do under a Shari'a dominated legal system?

Just curious.

Wow - talk about twisting things to fit one's preconceptions! This book by Ruth Rimm is not only remarkable in it's graphics and construction - its content is mind-stretching and provocative. Nowhere does Rimm claim this is a new Bible nor does she say Jesus had a Gorilla for a mother. I'm a Christian and while I wouldn't express myself quite the way Rimm does I find her command of language and her thoughtful expression refreshing and challenging. Sometimes when books make you think the easiest recourse, and the one taken here, is to invent criticism.

I know that she didn't mean that literally, as far as Jesus being born of a gorilla. My intent was to send people to the original article and let them make their own conclusions. I do not take myself too seriously, that is why I include links.

The Bible and other associated writings of historical and cultural importance, of that era do not need to be re-written for the sake of change. These great works of human culture do not need to be re-written to fit Post-Modern notions.

Studying the Bible doesn't make you think the easiest recourse. The more you study it, the more you realize how little you know of it.
